According to the Nursing Home Reform Act, nursing homes must provide certain services for their residents and must also follow strict standards for these services. Required services include:
- Designing comprehensive care plan designed specifically around the needs of each resident
- Meeting federal standards of quality when involved with social services
- Meeting federal standards of quality when providing dietary services
- Meeting federal standards of quality when providing pharmaceutical drug services
- Meeting federal standards of quality when providing rehabilitation services
- Employing a full-time social worker if the nursing home has more than 120 beds
- Periodically assessing each resident
- Maintaining standardized quality of nursing services
